Hi,
I have so many questions concerning Pub Life and I don't know if anybody will be able to help me with these, but let's hope so.
Firstly, I should explain that I am a Computer Manager for a large company in Miami and have just sold my UK home to relocate back to UK and fulfill my dream of running a pub. It will be a complete career change for me. My questions are:
(1) Liquor License - Is a Personal License required in ADDITION to a Premises License. Are either one of these the same as a "Justices License"?
(2) Can bars be open OUTSIDE the licensed hours for the provision of food and non alc. beverages?
(3) Is Public Liability Insurance required for a pub? Approximately what sum would that amount to pa (a very rough idea would be nice)
(4) Where can I find information out suitable POS systems. I am familiar with Micros onboard a ship.
(5) If I wanted to play music videos (DVDs), or broadcast MTV, or Sky Sports in the bar, would I need any special permission/license to do so? Would I be liable to pay royalties?
(6) If I install a Broadband Internet connection for my own person use, could I also run a cable down to the bar to give patrons internet access? Technically, I know this is possible, but not I need any special agreement with the Internet Service Provider?
(7) What sort of commission is received from ATM transactions? Is it worth the additioanl security risk of having an ATM machine in the bar?
(8) How can I find the industry standard salaries/payscales to ensure that I am paying my staff an appropriate amount?
Thanks for your feedback.
