A Dorset pub has welcomed new owners from the neighbouring county of Devon. Miles and Tracey Wheller have taken over the European Inn in the small hamlet of White Lackington. They will run the pub along with Tracey's parents, Richard and Susan Cass. The family currently run another pub in Axminster, Devon, and have acquired the European Inn through Bettesworths. The European lies between the villages of Piddletrenthide and Piddlehinton near the county town of Dorchester. It is reputed to date back to 1856 and comprises two adjoining buildings. The main part of the inn is a two-storey Victorian house with an original flint two-storey property to the side. It boasts gardens with a patio trade area and large car park to the rear with a smaller car park to the front. There is a main trading area in two interconnecting rooms, a family room, commercial kitchen and three-bedroomed owners' accommodation. The pub, which Bettesworths says is renowned for its ambience, superb food and choice of ales, was sold off an asking price of £340,000.
