Spirit levels to go up at Eight Bells?
There seem to be countless tales of strange goings-on in Britain's pubs and many a book has been penned about what happens when beer and the supernatural cohabit. The only trouble is these ghostly goings-on have never been captured on film except in some highly dubious pictures. All this could change after Neil Lawson, a VT operator, and student Marcus Holland braved Hallowe'en night in the 400-year-old Eight Bells in Old Hatfield, Hertfordshire, armed only with video cameras and Dutch courage. Pub regulars talk of three different ghostly apparitions as being in residence a young girl, an old woman seen at the bar and an old man wandering along an upstairs corridor. Lawson and Holland filmed for six hours last Friday night. Lawson explained: "We stayed in the bar area and it was quite scary to say the least." They are now ploughing through the footage. The filming was done as part of a documentary they are making on the history of the Eight Bells. Lawson is keen to hear from anyone who can shed any light on the pub's history, particularly on the ghosts and why they hang around the Eight Bells.
