Stuart Neame, the outspoken vice-chairman of Shepherd Neame, has quit the company.
The Kent brewer and pub operator issued a statement on the OFEX website this afternoon (Thursday, October 30).
Details are scant as to why he has quit but it is understood that there was an issue over the eventual successor to Bobby Neame as chairman of the business.
The statement issued by Shepherd Neame said: "The board of Shepherd Neame announce today that Stuart Neame, 58, has informed the company of his decision to resign with immediate effect.
"The board has accepted his resignation and would like to pay tribute to the contribution Stuart Neame has made to the business over his many years of service with the company, which he joined in 1972."
It is thought that Mr Neame (Stuart) was informed by the board that after consultation with shareholders and employees, he would not assume the mantle of chairman when Bobby Neame retires.
Mr Neame has been very much the public face of the Faversham-based business and is well known for his forthright views on hot topics such as Licensing Reform and the tax levy on alcohol.
Other family members of the board of directors include managing director Jonathan Neame, Bobby's son.
