The Crown Hotel in King Street, Castle Douglas, Dumfries & Galloway, changed hands through the Glasgow office of agents Christie & Co.

It sold the 19th-century former coaching inn on behalf of Kenny and Fiona McCall to Roger and Elizabeth Bushnell for an undisclosed sum.

The asking price for the freehold property was £398,000.

Located some 18 miles from Dumfries, Castle Douglas is the main market town for Galloway and within easy reach of the region's beautiful Lowlands scenery and coastline.

The Crown Hotel is located in the centre of the town, directly opposite the Market Hill Park and car park.

Dating back to 1833, it is full of tradition and character with excellent facilities and genuine quality throughout the bars, restaurant and bedroom accommodation.

The hotel, which has a three- star rating from the Scottish Tourist Board, has been upgraded to an excellent standard throughout and comprises 11 en suite letting bedrooms, manager's flat, public bar, coffee shop/lounge bar and restaurant.

Graeme Smith of Christie & Co said: "The sale of this long established hotel, in the hands of the same family since 1966, generated a high level of interest.

"The business was latterly run under management due to Kenny and Fiona McCall's varying work commitments.

"Naturally, the hotel holds a lot of history for our clients.

However, the time had come to sell up and retire from the trade altogether.

"The new owners, Roger and Elizabeth, are looking forward to developing the already thriving trade at the Crown.
