Greene King has won two industry awards for its humorous marketing drive aimed at recruiting pub managers. The company won Best Managerial Advertisement and Best Campaign at the Chartered Institute of Personnel's marketing awards for its adverts. One showed a manager forced to play a Christmas cassette on loop non-stop for nine weeks, and another a couple who had been trapped in a theme pub for six years with no flexibility to change. Inventive Curran Inventive Leisure has appointed Sean Curran to the board as finance director with effect from 1 September, replacing Vernon Lord. Curran, 33, is a chartered accountant and was previously finance director of the charter and distribution division of My Travel formerly Airtours. Jennings pilot Twelve Jennings Breweries licensees have been the first to take part in a pilot British Institute of Innkeeping course, the Advanced Certificate in Licensing. The course looks at themes including marketing, financial controls, staff motivation, customer service and business planning. Staff rights Companies face fines of up to £75,000 for breaking proposed new laws on consulting staff about redundancies and closures. The penalty was one proposed by the Government this week to enforce an EU directive aimed at improving worker involvement in industry. It is hoped it could prevent a repeat of the actions of insurance company Accident Group, who sacked 2,500 employees by text message last May. Brain campaign Welsh brewer SA Brain this week launched a television campaign which will support a rebranding campaign of its beers and pubs. The commercials will be aired in Wales and go under the slogan "Always half full". Other current company plans include new fonts, pub refurbishments and the opening of style bars.
