Maxxium Worldwide, the global premium brand wine and spirits distributor, today announced the appointment of Michael Sainsbury as Global Wine Director.

Commenting on the appointment, Roland van Bommel, Chief Executive, said: "Michael brings outstanding experience, a record of delivering growth and a un-matched knowledge of the global wine market with its specific challenges and opportunities.

"Wine currently represents 15% of Maxxium Worldwide's overall sales and Mike's role will be to leverage off the existing global wine and spirit portfolio to offer an unmatched brand building partnership. This will position Maxxium to play an important role in the consolidation of the global wine distribution market."

Mr. Sainsbury's experience in the wine industry spans three decades and includes 13 years as president of Remy Canada, where he built the company into Canada's leading premium wine and spirit agency. Over the next few months, Mr. Sainsbury will be transitioning from his current roll of President of Maxxium Japan K.K. and will relocate to Maxxium's Amsterdam HQ before the end of the year.

"The global branded wine market is undergoing considerable change and Maxxium has the global portfolio, experience and infrastructure to expand its presence in this market," said Mr. Sainsbury. "There is a real opportunity for Maxxium to take advantage of this and to build quality distribution for brand partners."

Mr. Sainsbury has been Director and President of the Ontario Imported Wine, Spirit and Beer Association and the Chair of the Liquor Committee for the European Business Council, Japan.
