The latest seasonal ale from Wychwood the Oxfordshire brewer in Witney is Owzat, which will be available this month.

The 4.2% abv ale has been created by head brewer Jeremy Moss using a blend of Maris Otter pale malt, malted wheat for lightness and Cara malt to give Ozwat its golden colour.

Challenger hops are added at different stages of the brewing process to give the beer a crisp, lime-flavoured taste.

Two Gloucestershire-based cider and perry makers, Hartland's Farmhouse and Summers, have won gold awards at Camra's Cider and Perry of the Year competition.

Summers Medium Cider, at 6.5% abv, was victorious in the cider category while Sweet, from Hartland's, claimed the top award in the perry category.

Judges described Summers Medium Cider as: "This is the business.

Chock full of flavour, tannin, acidity it's all there."

Hartland's Sweet was lauded as having a "honey taste, with a Stilton finish.

Lovely and mellow".

Dorset brewer Hall & Woodhouse has embarked on a "Trial by taste" campaign to encourage consumers to try its Badger beers.

The campaign will be fronted by "Tasty" someone dressed up as a giant pint who will be visiting 13 locations in the south of the country and giving away beer vouchers that entitle customers to a free pint of Badger at participating freehouses.

The campaign will run until mid September.

H&W vice-chairman Mark Woodhouse said: "Growing the number of cask-ale drinkers is a must if we want to continue to grow the ale market.

The launch of Tasty is a fun way of increasing the profile of cask ale as well as ultimately driving trial through the category.

It also gives us a great opportunity to demonstrate our support of valued free-trade stockists across the south."

Details of the campaign are given on the company website: www.badgerbrewery.com.
