In fact, Clive Webb loved the Fox Inn at Corscombe so much he worked behind the bar for a year-and-a-half! The Fox is a picturesque traditional 17th-century inn and has been sold by agents Bettes-worths of Torquay. It was the first time it had been on the open market in 37 years. Both Clive and his partner, Margaret Hannell, stress that nothing will change at the Fox and they are determined to keep up its very high standards. The thatched pub is reputed to date back to 1620. It has won an AA Rosette and is in the Good Food Guide. Award-winning chef George Marsh, who will be staying on at the pub, was recently featured as winner of the 2002 ITV's Taste of the West. Peter Rice will stay on as joint licensee and bar manager. The inn is also featured in many other guides, including The Which Hotel Guide, The Which Guide to Country Pubs, the AA Restaurant Guide, the AA Pubs and Inns Guide and the Michelin Guide. The pub boasts cottage-style bedrooms which have gained the AA's Four Diamonds. The sale price has not been disclosed but Bettesworths were seeking offers in the region of £750,000. The previous owners of the Fox, Martyn and Suzie Lee, will now be taking a well-earned rest from the trade.
