The sole pub in the village of Hilton, near Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, has been sold through the Ipswich office of agents Christie & Co following strong interest. The Prince of Wales dates back to the 1830s and is located in Potton Road. It is a traditional country inn set in a picturesque village in the heart of the countryside, yet conveniently placed for visiting Huntingdon, St Ives and Cambridge. The business has been sold on behalf of Mike and Helen Smith to Karen and Simon Perry for an undisclosed figure, from an asking price of £330,000 for the freehold. The property comprises lounge bar, public bar, catering kitchen, two-bedroom owners' accommodation, four en suite letting bedrooms, car park, enclosed patio and private yard. The letting accommodation currently has a four-diamond commendation from the AA and a similar rating from the English Tourism Council. The pub is featured in the Camra Good Beer Guide and has a growing reputation for good quality, home-cooked food, which currently accounts for about 20% of the trade. Christie's Bill Colquhoun commented: "The sale of the Prince of Wales generated stiff competition amongst prospective buyers, resulting in a number of genuine offers. "This sale demonstrates the huge ongoing demand for freehold pubs, not only in Cambridgeshire, but throughout the whole East Anglian region.
