Devon pub the Rydon Inn was only built a year ago but boasts history and character. For the inn, overlooking Rydon Park, near Holsworthy, was constructed using, whereverpossible, reclaimed materials to ensure it blended into the countryside and took on the look of an authentic character inn. The pub, which recently changed hands off £595,000,freehold, through Christie & Co, was built in November 2001 by Andrew and Janet Orchard. Specialist companies were consulted before and during the build, including a boat builder to make the bar top and joiners to construct the roof trusses, which were made on site using dowels and pegs for extra authenticity. The property features a main bar, cocktail lounge, conservatory dining area, three-section restaurant, commercial kitchen, three-bedroom owner's accommodation and a one-bedroom self-contained flat. It is set in about an acre of grounds, including a large car park and a large lawned tradegarden with rural views over the 18-acre Rydon Park. Michael Easton, of Christie & Co's Exeter Office, said: "Having constructed and successfully traded this impressive inn and restaurant, Mr and Mrs Orchard are now moving on to pursue other business interests." The pub was sold to Dennis and Janice Harper from Barnstaple within just two weeks of Christie's receiving instructions.
