Peggy's pub Villagers are fighting to save apub which used to be owned by EastEnders landlady Barbara Windsor. The Plough Inn at Winchmore Hill in Penn, Bucks, was run by the actress, who plays licensee Peggy Mitchell in the TV soap. Windsor, also a star of the Carry On films, was a regular sight behind the bar in the 1990s. Now plans to change "Bab's Boozer" into four luxury flats have upset locals. Penn Parish Council has objected to the plans submitted to Chiltern District Council by developer Martin Cramer. Cllr Maureen Seymour said: "That would leave one public house in the village, the Potters Arms, which caters for a different need. The Plough is predominantly a restaurant with a small bar. "Barbara Windsor helped to make it prosperous. It was ever so popular when she was running it." The actress sold it to a restaurant chain. It has since been bought and sold on by several groups. Residents packed a public meeting about the pub, which they estimate needs a £250,000 investment to restore it to its former glory. The owner, who bought the pub six weeks ago, told them that despite advertising for landlords no one had shown any interest. He added: "Find a suitable tenant prepared to agree the terms of the lease and the Plough could continue as a pub and high-class restaurant.
