North Bucks country inn theFolly which takes its name from the failed venture of a former landlord is on the market. When a new landlord purchased the inn, set just outside Adstock, in 1905, he demolished the original brewhouse to make way for new stabling and a riding school. But the project was doomed as the age of the car had arrived and was rapidly replacing horse-drawn traffic. Due to his "folly" the landlord decided to rename the inn the Folly in 1907. Today, the Folly is well established as a quality country inn and restaurant with letting accommodation. It is well known throughout the surrounding villages and attracts a strong local trade as well as passing trade. There has been an inn on the site since the 16th century, although the present building dates from around 1800, having been rebuilt following a fire in 1789. The inn was originally called the Crown because it was built on Crown land, which once formed part of the medieval Bernwood Forest. The property retains plenty of character, and has a lounge bar and 32-seat restaurant, 12 en suite letting bedrooms within theformer stables, three-bedroom owner's accommodation, catering kitchen and ancillary areas. There is a customer car park and a trade garden. The present proprietors have owned the leasehold interest for 11 years and now wish to retire. The property is for sale with Christie & Co at £130,000 for the remaining 14 years of a 15-year Vanguard lease from Punch Pub Company.
