  • Clarke Pub Company is selling eight of its Scottish pubs in order to focus on its larger managed outlets. The pubs include the Souter Johnnies in Dumfries, the Politican in Glasgow and Mucky Mulligans in Perth. The majority of its sites are freehold units in high profile locations. A riverside bar and restaurant called Ratty's, named after the character from Wind in the Willows, is up for sale through Fleurets. The property in Coninsby, Lincolnshire, has a special hours certificate until midnight two nights a week with scope to extend its current hours over lunchtime and early evening. Famous pub the Archway has been sold for a record price by property agent Fleurets. The beer only tie, owned by the Unique Pub Company, was sold for an asking price of close to £950,000. The pub had a turnover of £1.4m in 2001 and an annual rental of £120,000 for the remainder of its 28-year lease.

Free-of-tie mock Tudor pub the Cannon in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, is up for sale through agent Dowling Kerr. Situated in a well populated residential area it boasts weekly sales of about £5,500 per week. It has an open plan bar area and a separate restaurant area, which has a total of 74 covers. The Willows, a 16th century fine dining freehouse has been sold to the expanding Wellington Pub Company for an asking price of £325,000. The pub in Braintree, Essex is located in the centre of the town and has a food-led trade accounting for 70 per cent of turnover. Christie & Co handled the sale.

Wishing Well Taverns is continuing its expansion plans with the purchase of the Elbow Room, Crouch End, London. The site bought from Barracuda was one of the original Wetherspoon pubs in North London. The pub will be rebranded as a Wishing Well and will open in December. Wishing Well currently has 18 sites and plans to have for 25 by next Easter.

Christie & Co is selling the 17th century Bridford Inn on the edge of Dartmoor. The country freehouse in Bridford is located about a mile away from the River Teign valley. The pub is a traditional Devon longhouse built from a mixture of clay and straw called cob. It has a bar/dining room for up to 65 diners, tack room, meeting room, snug, commercial kitchen and three-bedroom accommodation.

Head of Steam, the five-strong chain of pubs owned by Tony Brookes, has acquired its sixth property. The Cluny in Lime Street, Newcastle, is a major venue in the city's entertainment scene.
