- Thwaites, the Lancashire-based brewer and pub retailer, is looking to acquire new pubs as part of its continued roll-out strategy. Property director Malcolm Harrison said: "We are interested in talking to individuals, small corporates and pub companies in a geographic area from Birmingham to the Scottish Borders." The company currently has just under 400 pubs across the UK.
Charles Wells, the Bedford-based regional brewer, is looking to grow its estate to 500 pubs in the next five to 10 years. The company, which has 260 managed and tenanted pubs across the UK, has signed up asset consultants Gerald Eve to manage its property portfolio.
Rosemount Taverns, the Glasgow-based 26-strong tenanted pub operator, has bought the Crosskeys Inn in Houston, Renfrewshire. The inn was originally a row of terraced cottages which were converted into a pub 50 years ago. The pub is on the high street and has a public bar, lounge bar, restaurant and games room. The sale was handled by Christie & Co for an undisclosed sum.
The 19th century Old Castle Green pub in Old Market, Bristol, is for sale by brewers Wadworths. Situated east of Bristol city centre, it is in an area that has been revitalised with a large number of licensed gay bars. It is available for a freehold price of £110,000. New company Rigfire Ltd has purchased the former Terra Firma restaurant in Brixton Hill, South London, through Christie & Co. The new owners are to open a café-bar concept called Ah Bar on the site and plan to open six more venues across the country in the next three years. Offers in the region of £80,000 were sought for the existing leasehold on the premises.
New Century Inns, the growing tenanted pub company set up by Alistair Arkley, has purchased the Black Horse Hotel in Grassington, Yorkshire. It was sold for an asking price of £750,000 through Robert Barry & Co.
Millennium Plaza, a £25m leisure scheme in Cardiff, developed by Delancey Estates and Brunswick Millennium Limited, has space available.
