Petrus, the London restaurant co-owned by Gordon Ramsay and Marcus Wareing, has finally been awarded its fifth AA rosette.

The restaurant is now one of just six in Britain to boast five rosettes.

It hit the headlines during the summer when AA managing director Roger Wood was said to have vetoed its fifth rosette.

The editor of the prestigious AA Restaurant Guide, Simon Wright, resigned over the row and accused Mr Wood of using his position to over-rule the inspectors' decisions.

Mr Wareing said: "I'm delighted to get the fifth rosette, it's a great achievement."

Meanwhile three historic pubs have been named as the AA Pubs of the Year for England, Scotland and Wales.

The Rose and Crown in Romaldkirk, County Durham, the Old Inn in Gairloch, Wester Ross, and the Bell at Skenfrith in Monmouthshire are the proud recipients of the awards.

The pubs, which were named as winners when the new AA Pub Guide was published last week, were selected by the AA after suggestions from the public.

Albert Hampson, spokesman for the AA, said: "They stand out for being great all-round pubs, combining a great atmosphere, a warm welcome from friendly, efficient hosts and staff with excellent food, well-kept beers and comfortable accommodation."
