Bacardi-Martini is rolling-out a scheme designed to raise the profile and profits of spirits in the on-trade.
Following a "mystery shopper" programme that revealed only 20 per cent of spirits were being served properly, Bacardi-Martini has launched "Pourfection" - an educational initiative aimed at showing how correctly served spirits can considerably increase profit margins for publicans.
Bacardi-Martini has released a CD Rom, starring well-respected cocktail mixologist Alex Turner, that concentrates on three core topics:
- The benefits to both the trade and the consumer of upsizing to 35ml and 50ml servings
- How to serve mixed drinks correctly
- How to create innovative and delicious cocktails
The CD includes a step-by-step guide to making the ideal mixed drink and each recipe is accompanied by photography to show what the finished product should look like.
Mr Turner has briefed the Bacardi-Martini sales force and has also created a number of innovative concoctions using its growing spirit portfolio. The cocktails are divided into three sections according to difficulty and include shaken, built, muddled or blended cocktails.
Finally, a recipe section gives full ingredients and methods for over 90 drinks including classics such as the Mojito and Daiquiri.
Ms Carter added: "With so many high street bars and drinks brands competing against each other, it is no longer enough for a venue to provide comfortable sofas and a lively atmosphere. The quality of serve is vitally important and contributes enormously to profits.
"Pourfection will help increase sales of the spirits within the trade, whilst more importantly, give the consumer a first class drink."
