Glasgow based G1 pub and club group has been slammed by a Glasgow residents' group over a bid to open its outlets in Glasgow's Merchant City until 5am.

The company wants a late licence for the Corinthian bar on Ingram Street, Arta on Candleriggs, the Polo Lounge on Wilson Street and Babaza on Royal Exchange Square.

The licence application would allow the outlets to serve alcohol until 3am and stay open until 5am.

But the newly-formed One O'Clock Campaign, set up by local residents to oppose late opening past 1am, has attacked the proposal.

The group wants all licensed premises to close at 1am to prevent the spread of late-night violence and disorder.

The G1 bid is not due to be considered by Glasgow licensing board until its next session in June.

Angus Lawrie, G1 marketing manager, said: "We have requested a block licence for our units which would allow us some flexibility during special events, such as the jazz festival.

"It's a standard application which brings us in line with other outlets in the city. We've had it before but never used it."
