A competition linking a York pub with a local art college has proved so successful it is being opened up to a national vote.
The Slug and Lettuce chain began the scheme in its York outlet last year when paintings from students at local college St John's were exhibited in the bar so that customers and a selected panel of judges could vote on the winner.
Pub-goers enjoyed the art exhibition so much that the chain has now decided to give customers in other Slug and Lettuce venues, and the rest of the nation, the chance to vote for the winner.
Judges have already short-listed the top 10 pieces and these are now on display in outlets in York, Nottingham and Harrogate.
But anyone who can't make it to any of the three venues can view the works of art and vote online at www.slugandlettuce.co.uk.
Paul Filler of Slug and Lettuce said the company had received a great response.
"Customers have really enjoyed choosing their favourite pieces and giving support to these young student artists," he said.
"To encourage people to vote online, we're also giving away 10 MP3 players."
The winner, who will be announced in May, will be awarded a cash prize and will have their work reproduced for the Slug and Lettuce chain.
