A sharp decline in travel has hit top London hotels in the aftermath of the terror attacks in America. Six Continents, which owns Holiday Inns and Inter-Continental, said that the short-term effects on its business could be substantial given that 20 per cent of its hotel profits were generated in September and October

Crisis talks on future for economy. Scotland's politicians were in economic crisis talks last week ahead of a meeting on Tuesday with UK trade and industry secretary Patricia Hewitt. The Scottish Executive is considering its own economic assessment impact study and will focus on two key themes. A joint action group including VisitScotland, the area tourist boards and the British Tourism Authority has also produced an action plan.
