Pub caterers are planning a range of events and promotions to capitalise on Father’s Day this Sunday (15 June).

A beer festival has been timed to tap into both World Cup fever and Father's Day at the Bull at Watton, Hertfordshire, a freehold run by Alastair and Anna Bramley.

As the football tournament is kicking off, the pub’s ‘World Sup’ promotion will offer a range of international beers representing participating countries, while themed sharing platters will be available, including English pies, Spanish tapas, Italian hams and cheeses and Mexican dips, from around £6 per person.

Pub operator and brewer Thwaites is offering a gift pack of four Thwaites beers to fathers dining on Father’s Day, at its revamped Inns of Character managed pub the Bull’s Head in Earlswood, near Solihull, West Midlands.

The offer is being publicised via social media and the pub’s newsletter. Tempting families to book a table with Dad for breakfast or lunch is a key aim, and it is hoped longer opening hours and turning tables frequently will help to double last year’s sales on the day.

At Spirit's Chef & Brewer pubs families dining with Dad after 6pm will be offered their third course free. Desserts include Colombian chocolate torte and baked lemon cheesecake, fresh strawberries and raspberry coulis.

If dad is a Campaign for Real Ale member, he’ll receive 10% off all cask ale purchases on presentation of his card.

Classic comic The Beano is linking up with 150 of Whitbread's Brewers Fayre sites.

The tie in will see a number of Beano themed dishes appearing on the children’s menu.

For Father’s Day weekend a promotion is being offered where Dad’s dining at the chain will receive a free, limited edition Beano comic which features a special Father’s Day story.

Free pint for Dad

Nothing goes down better than a free pint and at the Three Crowns in Wisborough Green, West Sussex, Dad’s will receive a free pint of Crown Inn Glory when they dine at the pub.

At Mitchell’s & Butler’s Ember Inns sites, Dad can be treated to a special set menu and a free pint of either Carlsberg or house ale.

Spirit's Flaming Grill Pubs sites are throwing down a challenge to Dad in the form of the ‘trash can challenge.’ For £19.99 Dad can set about tackling the enormous task of finishing a giant rack of ribs, double cheese and bacon burger, beef chilli sundae, chicken skewer, onion rings, corn on the cob, smokey BBQ baked beans, peas and a triple portion of chips all served up in a giant trash can lid.

Other special Father’s Day dishes include the Super Sunday Roast for £8.99 with either lamb, chicken or beef, the Tasty T-Bone Steak for £14.99 and the Champion Burger for £7.49 (add an extra burger or chicken breast for £1.50).
