Brits are the most generous round buyers in Europe, according to a new survey.

An SAB Miller survey of European drinking culture revealed that 82% of Brits are likely to buy a round of drinks for friends rather than split the cost like the vast majority of Germans (90%).

The South West of Britain is the biggest round buying region with 93% preferring to buy drinks in this way, with the Midlands bottom of the round buying pile.

The majority of Brits (77%) would also buy someone a drink regardless of whether they would get one back in return.

But the Romanians are top of the pile with 90% willing to buy a drink and not get one back in return but just 16% of Spanish and German beer drinkers would do the same.

Gary Whitlie, managing director of Miller Brands (UK) said: "It's good to see that Britain leads the way in areas of generosity and camaraderie when it comes to appreciating beer.

"The report has certainly highlighted some interesting idiosyncrasies about European culture and how, where and with whom we enjoy a beer."
