Wetherspoon scraps Jersey plan

Managed pub operator JD Wetherspoon has scrapped plans to open its first Channel Islands outlet.

Managed pub operator JD Wetherspoon (JDW) has scrapped plans to open its first Channel Islands outlet.

It had planned to open on the site of a former Chicago Rock bar at the Waterfront in Saint Helier, Jersey, and last week was understood to be nearing site completion.

JDW pulled out of a licensing hearing last Wednesday, saying it planned to re-apply at a later date.

But spokesman Eddie Gershon said: "JDW has now decided against looking to open in Jersey for the foreseeable future as it wants to concentrate on its pubs on the mainland."
