Wetherspoon nets exclusive deal on Jeremiah Weed
JD Wetherspoon will be the exclusive stockist for the launch of a sweet-tea based liqueur from the US.
The spirit, called Jeremiah Weed, is owned by Diageo and has a large following in the US, where it sponsors Nascar stock-car racing.
It was launched yesterday across all Wetherspoon venues in the UK and will be exclusive to the chain until January when it will be rolled out further.
Made from vodka and sweet tea the 35% ABV brand is aimed at students. Served as a "Weed & Lemonade" the drink comes in branded jam jars with ice, lemonade and a wedge of lemon or lime.
"We expect Jeremiah Weed to be very popular, particularly with students," said Wetherspoon's head of marketing Ashley Halliday. "It's a very cool brand and the unusual glassware will ensure it becomes a big hit."
The drink will cost £1.99 for a single shot with lemonade and £2.99 for a double.
To promote the launch Wetherspoon is running a competition on its website, offering the chance for consumers to win a trip for two to the US, including a visit to a Nascar event.
In the US the brand comes in two more flavours: Jeremiah Weed Country Peach Sweet, Tea Flavoured Vodka and Jeremiah Weed Sweet Tea Flavoured Vodka & Bourbon Whiskey.
