Pernod rolls out Barrel Proof rum
A premium variant of Havana Club rum will soon be available in the UK for the first time.
The 45% abv Havana Club Cuban Barrel Proof will be heading to the UK’s style bars to join the rest of the brand’s portfolio — part of the Pernod Ricard stable.
The launch follows last week’s announcement of another premium spirit launch from Pernod — Beefeater 24.
“We’re really excited about this new product from Havana Club, particularly as it is already a favourite with leading international bartenders,” said Pernod marketing director for spirits, Vlastimil Spelda.
“It is perfect for short, stylish cocktails such as Old Fashioned or El Presidente, which bring out the smoky flavours of the rum. And it is equally good as a slow sipping rum served neat or on the rocks.”
Production of the amber-coloured rum uses ancient rum-making techniques to give it a rich flavour.
Creator of the rum, master distiller Don Jose Navarro, reportedly spent many years working on the blend, which he finishes in younger oak casks.
The rum is described as having a light nose of caramel, toasted pecan and spice aromas with a pleasant smoky oak finish.
