AA Pubs of the Year revealed
The Queens Arms at Corton Denham, Somerset, has been named the AA Pub of the Year for England, and the Bush Inn at St Hilary is Pub of the Year for Wales.
Rupert and Victoria Reeves, have run the freehold of the Queens Arms (pictured) for four years and also own the Stapleton Arms at Buckhorn Weston, Dorset.
The pub has a strong food offer — with the couple even rearing their own pigs for meat for the pub’s menu — plus five letting rooms. The Bush Inn is one of two pubs owned by Artizan Leisure.
The Royal Oak, in Paley Street, near Maidenhead, Berkshire, was awarded AA Restaurant of the Year for England. The pub is owned by TV chat-show host Michael Parkinson and his son Nick. Head chef is Dominic Chapman, who previously worked at Heston Blumenthal’s Hinds Head in Bray, Berkshire.
The Walnut Tree at Abergavenny, Monmouthshire, was named Restaurant of the Year for Wales. The inn was reopened in February by Michelin-starred chef Shaun Hill and William Griffiths, owner of the Angel Hotel in Abergavenny.
In the Good Food Guide 2009 editors’ awards, the Yew Tree at Barfreston, Kent, was named Pub Newcomer of the Year, and Dominic Chapman of the Royal Oak, Paley Street, Berkshire, Best Pub Chef.
