Barracuda opens its 220th pub
Managed operator Barracuda has opened its 220th pub in the Scottish home town of chief executive Mark McQuater.
The Malt Cross in Ayr, a Smith & Jones-branded bar, is Barracuda’s 13th site in Scotland and opened following a £800,000 investment.
McQuater said: “It’s a fantastic feeling to open a site in your home town. The pub has opened just as the redevelopment and rejuvenation programme has begun on this attractive town, so I’m confident that the site will play an important role in the community.”
Francis Carr, manager of The Malt Cross said: “We’ll be opening at 11am for breakfast each day where we’ll be serving cooked breakfasts, Danish pastries and steaming mugs of coffee.
"We’ll also be offering a premium drinks range including cask ales such as Deuchars IPA and Caledonian 80/- and a comprehensive wine list and an award-winning Smith & Jones menu all day that offers everything from wraps, sandwiches, sharing plates to hearty main meals and delicious desserts.”
The name of the Malt Cross comes from a stone monument that once stood in front of the site of the pub.
The name was chosen from a competition held in the Ayrshire Post.
