That's very good to hear, Edward; Mark, please note & if you want a hand or to talk things over with me, please PM me here. |

Pubco Inquiry: ‘Give us the truth’ > Pubco Inquiry: ‘Give us the truth’
I'm getting weary of threads regarding valid topics being locked off because of one individual's behaviour. No one here refers to this person either directly or indirectly & yet any comment at which he takes umbrage results in a locked thread. Several of us have made a pact to ignore whatever he says in order to pursue subjects relevant to the interests which bring us all here, yet there is no escape from the barrage of sniping. This is supposed to be a forum where issues affecting the pub trade can be freely discussed. If we are expected, as adults, to subjugate our varying views for fear of treading on egg shells then we might as well not post on this site at all. There is moderation & then there is censorship; what's going on here resembles the latter more than the former & is actually adding fuel to the flames. |

Yes, it's safe to assume that every move the pubcos now make is being closely monitored by HMRC assessors. Hmmmmmmmm :) |

Chris, you seem like a smart man; might I therefore suggest that you focus your smarts on issues as you've ably done elsewhere & avoid being drawn into La La Land? It happened to me initially but I no longer bite as I'm interested in facts, not background noise. I'm sure you take my point. |

Does Punch Do What It Says On The Tin? > Does Punch Do What It Says On The Tin?
Other example of what, Kevin? I have no idea what qualifications anyone here has as no one answered the question I posed on a thread that was locked because of irrelevant interruptions. The point I'm making is that *no one* in any type of business should misrepresent that business to potential clients; to use a term which implies greater credentials than actually exist is unacceptable. Pubs are FAILING in the current climate & people are losing their livelihoods; if they turn to a business adviser in good faith & that person does not have the credentials they say they have, then they are ADDING to the problems people are experiencing, not reducing them. Plus they are charging for the privilege. How anyone can justify such behaviour is beyond me. I have no problem with businesses who represent themselves fairly & honestly; it's the other kind that stick in my craw. |

Pubco Inquiry: ‘Give us the truth’ > Pubco Inquiry: ‘Give us the truth’
Think you need to step back a little & take a look at the bigger pubco picture, William. They're not poor little pubcos losing market share & suffering alongside their tenants; they're deliberately destabilising their estates in order to make REIT status. The short-term drop in share prices will MORE than be made up once they achieve REIT & tax exemption. Right now, empty abandoned pubs are worth more than profitable successful ones because we're talking about their PROPERTY value. The only losers in this scenario are the landlords & it is THIS cynically-destructive business practise which needs to be brought to the attention of those with the power to prevent it. |

Does Punch Do What It Says On The Tin? > Does Punch Do What It Says On The Tin?
Good post & one which neatly dovetails with the already-mooted idea of running a survey to get detailed accurate data on the numbers of lessees in difficulty & what exactly the areas of difficulty are. Until this data is available for analysis & reporting to interested parties, all we have is hearsay. |

You're clearly having a bad time, Edward. If a survey of landlords' experiences were to be taken for submission to the enquiry, would you take part? And do you know others who would? |
