The pubco model has nothing to do with the problems faced by some community pubs – that' s the view of Enterprise Inns chief operating officer Simon Townsend.

Townsend, who was giving evidence at the Community Pubs Inquiry, also called for rate relief for pubs which provide facilities for the community.

Townsend revealed that 866 pubs – about one in nine – Enterprise Inns pubs were currently being offered some form of rent relief or drinks discount to help them.

"The tie, per say, in businesses such as ours has nothing to do with the difficulties faced by some pubs in general," he said.

He said the tenanted and leased model allowed flexibility in economically challenging times.

Beer tie not to blame for struggling pubs

Mark, I'm more than a little surprised that this press release from Enterprise was supposed to 'blow Fairpint out of the water'.

As Dennis Healey once said, kind of like being savaged by a dead sheep dontcha think?

I suggest you learn to read, Mr Stenhouse. Mr Nason is an habitual forum nuisance who twists my words yet cannot provide a single instance where any post of mine here relates to him in any way, save to his own paranoia. If you think I will permit him to falsify my statements you are much mistaken. As to your petty comment at the end of your post, nice to see you leading by example. People in glasshouses & all that.

RE: Beer tie not to blame for struggling pubs

I think it has all been said, But Simon is right it's not the tie that is the problem, Just the disgusting proffiteering on prices. How can £200 a barrel difference or more between free and tied prices be right. The Pubco's are going to end up killing the golden goose and sooner than they think. Especially now with all prices sky rocketing people really are drinking to their pockets.
