Pub changes 'all about meat' sign after vegetarians complain

Vegetarian villagers complained about the sign at the Victoria Inn, Witton-le-Wear, through a village survey.

In response, managers at the pub changed the sign to reading “it’s all about me”.

No hard feelings​

Co-manager Lucy Heslop told the Northern Echo​ she harboured no hard feelings about the change.

“We thought about making it about the customers – I think it’s a great way to tell the customer it’s about them.” 

It was important all members of the community felt included, she said.

Death threats    ​

Back in June, a pub was forced to remove foie gras from its Valentine’s Day menu after its staff were threatened by ‘vegan activists’.

Chef-owner of the pub Mark Dixon told The Morning Advertiser ​(MA​) at the time he and his staff were called “vile” and told they would have tubes “shoved” down their throats “like they do to the geese”.

The incident saw activists take to Facebook in an attempt to smear the pub’s reputation by leaving a barrage of one-star reviews.

One poster even discussed whether it would be possible to pour cement down a man hole near the pub to disrupt the business.
