The Bath Nightwatch scheme, managed and funded by the Bath business improvement district (BID), enables licensees, police, CCTV operators, and night marshals to communicate about security issues by using ‘smart radio’ technology.
There are already plans to extend the scheme to landlords based in the city’s outskirts.
Mark Casey, general manager of Molloy’s Bar in Bath, said: “We have tried to implement a crimewatch system in the past but, without the proper equipment, it was not as effective.
“This integrated radio system keeps us all in touch and means we know what is going on, so we can take action quickly. I think every city would benefit from introducing a Nightwatch system.”
Gemma Kirby, of Avon and Somerset Police, added: “The Nightwatch scheme has extended a successful Pubwatch and maximises
the opportunities for information sharing. It is an excellent initiative.”
