Coca-Cola was crowned the most popular brand in the soft drinks category, claiming fifth place on the overall list as the ‘biggest’ soft drink seller in pubs and bars.

A Coca-Cola European Partners spokesperson said: “The Coca-Cola icon bottle is hugely popular among consumers, providing a premium drinking experience while out of the home.

“For a long time, licensees have been aware of the impact that serving beer in branded glassware can have on increasing their sales.

"Adopting the same practice when serving soft drinks can also create incremental growth.”

In second place, Fever-Tree Tonic Water was accredited by many operators with playing a key role in the gin revival.

Fentimans Tonic Water, also reached a high position in the list as a ‘successful’ premium mixer.

Britvic Soft Drinks marketing director Kevin McNair said: “J₂O has been consistently advertised since its launch. This has helped the brand establish itself as the joint most considered soft drinks brand when socialising, with around £37.5m on-trade consumption moments each year.”

As such a 66/33 weighted split was used to determine the list, balancing consumer preferences with actual on-trade sales performance to give the most accurate and comprehensive list of the 100 ultimate drinks brands in the GB on-trade. By measuring brands against a number of equity features, we have also uncovered consumers’ perception of brands and the reasons why they make up the nation’s favourite drinks – are they cool, fun, value for money etc... All sales data used in the report is from the brands and their owners.
