Industry joins forces to launch Beer Day Britain

The beer industry has come together to create a national beer day.

Beer Day Britain, intended to be a celebration of all that is great about beer, is set to take place for the first time next year on 15 June.

CAMRA, the Society of Independent Brewers, Cask Marque, the British Beer & Pub Association, the Independent Family Brewers of Britain, and the cross industry campaign Let There Be Beer have all signed up to support the initiative.

The idea was the brainchild of Beer Sommelier of the Year 2014 Jane Peyton, who has joined forces with Sophie de Ronde, the head brewer at Brentwood Brewing, and Sara Barton, head brewer and founder of Brewster's Brewing Company to spearhead the event.

“Many people have said over the years that Britain should have an annual national beer day,” Peyton told the Publican’s Morning Advertiser. “I was keen to do what I could to make that happen.”

Publicans are being encouraged to get involved by running their own events and promotions and by promoting the initiative in venues and on social media.

A website has been set up, www.beerdaybritain.co.uk, which features an information pack to download and other information for anyone wishing to take part.

There is also a Facebook page and a Twitter account (@BeerDayBritain) to keep people up-to-date.

“If pubs, brewers, supermarkets, beer shops, and beer related organisations make their own plans to create events, publicity and encourage people to drink beer and go to the pub the Beer Day Britain will be the best beery day of the year,” said Peyton.
